The only medical staff in Korea is a Catalyst laser training doctor
Glory Seoul Ophthalmology opened in 2005. Along with excellent medical staff from Seoul National University, it is equipped with facilities that can operate on all three areas: cornea, lens, and retina.
It is known as a hospital that speaks with skills and know-how, including 10,000 laser cataracts in Korea. I met Koo Oh-seop, the head of the representative office, who is confident of being the top 0.1% specialized hospital in both skills and facilities in Korea.
Q) B&H Korea CEO Park Bo-hyun (hereinafter referred to as Park Bo-hyun): Glory Seoul Ophthalmology is confident in the top 0.1% of surgery for presbyopia and cataract, which depends on the skills of medical staff. Please tell me what is different from other hospitals.
A) Glory Seoul Ophthalmology Director Koo Oh-seop (hereinafter referred to as Koo Oh-seop): Glory Seoul Ophthalmology introduced laser cataract surgery to the market early and kept satisfying patients over a long period of preparation.
In addition, it is equipped with university hospital-level examinations and surgical equipment. Even with the latest medical equipment, how well you know and can handle medical devices will affect the results of the surgery. Since the introduction of laser cataract surgery, all the doctors in the clinic have been performing surgery as Catalyst laser training doctors.
The main strength is that all medical staff are from the College of Ophthalmologists of Seoul National University Medical School and are composed of 0.1% specialists in three areas: cornea, lens, and retina. In addition, we have introduced a safety management system for safe surgery that provides optimal customized surgery including examination, surgery, medical staff, and equipment management.
Q) If it is possible to examine and operate on all three areas of cornea/fertilizer/retina in the cataract surgery, the method would have been different from the past. What's the difference?
A) In the field of cataract surgery, the method of ultrasound emulsification has been used a lot. However, ultrasonic emulsification inevitably has a high corneal endothelial damage rate due to ultrasonic vibration. If the corneal endothelial cell is once damaged, it does not recover. So it is most important to reduce damage. The inserted artificial lens (lens) is also focused on short-focus lenses, so even after surgery, it is inconvenient to use glasses or magnifying glasses during short-range work.
Using the latest laser equipment that improves this point, we perform multifocal artificial lens implantation and continuous focal artificial lens implantation that can minimize corneal damage and solve presbyopia and cataracts at the same time.
In addition, it is possible to recommend appropriate methods based on the analysis many cases of patients from examinations and medical counseling. Also, we find a surgery that suits the patient's lifestyle to prevent side effects and increase patient satisfaction.
Q) Recently, the number of "young presbyopia" is increasing rapidly since the presbyopia disease suddenly appears even in those in their 40s and 50s due to the use of smartphones. If symptoms appear, is it better to treat them immediately? Do you have any early symptoms to watch out for?
A) The age group of patients recently visiting the hospital is also gradually lowering. Presbyopia is a disease caused by a decrease in the elasticity of the lens. Naturally, it becomes less elastic with age. So, as you can see the long-distance well, but you can't see the short-distance well, you look at it far away when you read a newspaper or a book.
A cataract is a disease in which the lens becomes cloudy, so it starts with a symptom that looks blurry, it progresses to overripe cataracts, and light spreads. Or myopia is seen as opposed to presbyopia.
At first, as both diseases of presbyopia and cataract experience blurry eyes, the symptoms are often confused. If your eyesight changes enough to make your daily life uncomfortable, or if you are in your 40s or older, you should visit the ophthalmologist for a checkup. Just finding a disease does not mean surgery immediately. Since it depends on the degree of progress, it is recommended to treat medication to improve and to continuously manage changes in the disease through regular checkups.
Q) When symptoms of eye disease are mild, they tend to be easily ignored and overlooked. From the perspective of 'preventive medicine', which is a recent medical trend, is there a way to prevent symptoms before the disease develops? Also, if there is a good habit to prevent eye diseases in our daily life, please recommend it.
A) If you have a family history, it is recommended to prevent it in advance through genetic testing. DNA from birth cannot be changed, but environmental factors or eating habits can reduce the likelihood of disease. Usually, smartphones are used in dark places before going to bed, and when blue light generated by electronic devices such as smartphones and TVs is reflected on the retina, toxic chemical molecules are produced. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid seeing devices that emit blue light for a long time because it can lead to decreased vision, dry eyes, or even damage to the retina and lens in severe cases. Also, it is recommended to pay attention to eye health by eating foods containing a lot of lutein or vitamin A, which are usually eye health supplements. MyEyeGene is an ophthalmic specialized genetic test method that can analyze an individual's genetic types in connection with five types of ophthalmic diseases: macular degeneration, conical cornea, glaucoma, retinal pigmentation, and severe eye dryness. Since saliva is easily collected and carried out by genetic testing, it is attracting attention as a more convenient test method than the existing DNA collection method. If the test analyzes the possibility of developing eye disease, you can learn how to reduce the likelihood of developing eye disease.
Q) You devised an eye spectrum that systematically analyzes individual eye conditions and conducted various programs for patients including patient lifelong management guarantees with the MyChart system after 70 comprehensive tests. Please tell us your plans or goals you are preparing.
A) Glory Seoul Ophthalmology has developed and operated various programs to minimize inconvenience before and after surgery. I want to be a partner who can communicate and be with people for the rest of my life, not a just relationship between a doctor and a patient in surgery.
Not only the CEO but all executives and employees of Glory Seoul Eye Clinic will always try to enjoy the happy life of a patient, without being satisfied with the surgery and making your eyes visible.
