We address the growing number of concerns about belly fat
Obesity, which was called a Western disease, has already become a common disease in Korea, and a concern for many people. Unlike in the past, when belly fat was considered a symbol of wealth, obesity, in modern days, is gradually recognized as a disease. In fact, obesity is a cause of dangerous diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and hyperlipidemia. However, it is difficult for busy modern people to lose weight easily even though they are aware of the seriousness.
We met with Mr. Lee Seon-ho, chairman of the 365mc Obesity Clinic, and discussed the topic of obesity treatment.
Q. Park Bo-hyun, CEO of B&H Korea (hereinafter referred to as Park Bo-hyun): Does it mean you're obese because you're heavy? What is skinny obesity?
A. Lee Seon-ho, head of Global Samyuk OMC Hospital (hereinafter referred to as Lee Seon-ho): Obesity refers to a condition in which body fat is excessively accumulated in the human body, and weight gain due to muscle development is not diagnosed as obesity. On the other hand, if you weigh less, but have an excessively high proportion of body fat due to your body composition, you can be diagnosed as obesity, which is often referred to as "skinny obesity". In the case of “skinny obesity”, when people starve to lose weight, they lose the metabolism due to muscle loss, so even if a little in the amount of food consumed, such a phenomenon is likely to occur.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: Is there a safe and effective way to get rid of belly fat for middle-aged men in their 40s and 50s who are worried about abdominal obesity?
A. Lee Seon-ho: The reality is that in Korea, this group of men is often quite busy and does not have enough time to exercise. For those who seek a safe and effective way to remove belly fat in their 40s and 50s with concern for abdominal obesity, I will recommend “fat inhalation” and “LAMS” treatments. But if you are looking for a more dramatic effect, liposuction is recommended, however with limited time, a simple LAMS procedure is sufficient.
"Men also do liposuction?" You may have a little prejudice, but the number of male patients visiting our hospital is increasing. Compared to 2013, it has increased by a whopping 31% in 2015 and is expected to increase further. In addition to the abdomen, there are many visits from men who are worried about “Female breast syndrome” where men develop breasts like women.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: Could you please introduce LAMS in more detail?
A. Lee Seon-ho: LAMS is a new concept of obesity procedure based on 365mc’s 14 years of accumulated clinical experience in obesity treatment. It is the latest obesity procedure that removes fat with minimal invasion under local anesthesia, and it is characterized by being able to return to daily life immediately after completing the procedure within an hour. In particular, as fat cells are extracted directly without the anesthesia process for general surgery, it is simpler than liposuction surgery. In addition, it is more effective than conventional procedures in that it destroys fat layers and cellulitis that are clumped together through special equipment and extracts fat directly. It is now the most popular procedure at 365mc today.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: Recently, we have heard of many obesity-related surgical accidents and side effects. Can you address the public who have fears and concerns over liposuction?
A. Lee Seon-ho: When it comes to surgery, big or small, "safety" should always come first, since any surgery carries unexpected risks. It is most important to establish a “safety system” including the condition of medical staff and continuously improve it. Although liposuction is a relatively safe operation, we prepared a system at 365mc to optimize the safety of liposuction procedures, such as thorough preparation for any emergency that may occur. This can be said as a result of "Certification of Medical Institutions of the Ministry of Health and Welfare" and "2015 Medical Korea Award for Minister of Health and Welfare for the first time in the field of cosmetic surgery.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: What are the services available to attract foreign patients?
A. Lee Seon-ho: Currently, 80% of foreign patients are Chinese. Recently, there is an increase in patients visiting from the United States and the Middle East. We have dedicated interpreters of Chinese and English, and all surgical facilities such as counseling rooms, operating rooms, and recovery rooms are dedicated to foreign customers. Consultations before and after surgery can be provided through messenger or e-mail used in different countries. There is also a VAT refund window for overseas customers that has been available since April 1st, so oversea patients can use it without any hassle.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: Why is 365mc considered a good hospital?
A. Lee Seon-ho: There is a reason why I am the Director Chief of 365mc. This is because I am also the chairman of the 365mc Welfare Foundation, which was established in 2011 with representatives from 365mc. Since its establishment, the 365mc Welfare Foundation has been collecting donations and serving as the centerpiece of 365mc’s social contribution. All members of the 365mc agree that "social contribution should be carried out at the medical affairs", where the foundation is striving since its establishment, to contribute towards making a better society with a good hospital.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: I would like to hear more about your objectives for the future of the hospital.
A. Lee Seon-ho: First of all, 365mc is offering the best cure for obesity in the world. To that end, we're expanding our area of expertise in 'obesity'. As a specialized obesity treatment hospital, we are conducting experimental treatments by combining traditional treatments with behavior modification guidance and fitness centers, and we are planning on using IT to create the most trendy way to help patients to conquer obesity.
Secondly, build the kindest 365mc in the world. Through various service activities for customer and employee satisfaction, it will be reborn as a nicer hospital for those who meet 365mc.
Lastly, it will strengthen 365mc’s social contribution effort by practicing love and sharing. I will stick to my philosophy of “Social contribution is the practice of the Hippocratic Oath”, and continue practicing medicine in the same manner.
