Let's age healthy and happy
Plastic surgery has become popular as one’s appearance has become a basic standard of self-management. With the fever of anti-aging, the number of middle-aged people visiting plastic surgery clinics are also increasing. We met with Dr. Kim Ji-hoon of the Well-Aging Center at Ewha Woman’s University Seoul Hospital, who provides anti-aging targeted treatment programs along the aging cycle.
Q. Park Bo-hyun, CEO of B&H Korea (hereinafter referred to as Park Bo-hyun): Hello doctor Kim, it's nice meeting you here at the university hospital that specializes in cosmetic surgery. Please tell us about yourself briefly and introduce what competitiveness the department has in charge of cosmetic surgery at Ewha Woman's University Seoul Hospital.
A. Doctor Kim Ji-hoon of Seoul Hospital affiliated with Ewha Woman’s University Medical School (hereinafter referred to as Kim Ji-hoon): Hello, I am Kim Ji-hoon, a plastic surgery doctor who is the head of the Well Aging Center at Ewha Woman’s University Seoul Hospital. Our Hospital's Well-Aging Center offers ROYAL programs with English letters in front of 5 fields; Rebalance, Overcoming the aging process, Young and Fresh, AI Designation, and Lifetime Health Maintenance. We have recently introduced obesity treatment. Not only those who are interested in cosmetic surgery but also those who are interested in slow aging and well-aging are visiting us.
It's not much different from a hospital that specializes in cosmetic surgery. However, as a university hospital, surgeries proceed with the highest safety measures in an environment well-equipped with advanced surgical tools and systems. It is also easy to collaborate with medical professionals from other departments, which can be advantageous in emergency responses.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: In the ROYAL Program of the Well-Aging Center, which was developed to target the core, what kind of system proceeds for beauty plastic surgery?
A. Kim Ji-hoon: In general, medical treatment at a university hospital is conducted by searching the relevant department you need and then making reservations through Internet or call centers. On the other hand, the treatment at the Well-Aging Center is a little different. The Well-Aging Center is not a space only when you are sick, but you can age healthy and happy, both internally and externally if you come, which is the motto of our center. At a time when the “unntact” is emerging, Well-Aging Center is being operated based on the human touch.
First, patients will feel the difference when they are entering the waiting area. They are visited by doctors, not the other way around. The professors of the Well-Aging Center communicate organically with the professors of the program the patient wants throughout the entire consultation. It's a form in which doctors who participate in the program take care of one subject as a whole.
Next, patients contact the coordinators to make reservations for Well-Aging Center and other medical departments as well. Although we live in an internet age, people still prefer to book appointments by phone or face-to-face.
And of course, surgery or further follow-up is subject to professional plastic surgery procedures.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: As the number of middle-aged and elderly people who desire for younger and more lively look increases, they have become more interested in anti-aging. Is there a suitable time for the procedure and surgery?
A. Kim Ji-hoon: I don't think there is a suitable time for anti-aging or treatment per se. People in their 20s have concerns about beauty that only exist in their 20s, and so do the ones in their 60s. Even those in their 80s who think it might be too late have their own concerns as well, things like drooping eyelids and blocking their eyesight. There are many surgeries or procedures for each age group, and I play a role in recommending appropriate surgery or procedures according to their concerns. For those who are worried about the elasticity of their faces, we introduce various methods such as thread lifting, various types of laser lifting, forehead eyebrow ligation, and facial laceration.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: What do you consider the most when recommending surgery or procedures?
A. Kim Ji-hoon: What I pay most attention to is the naturalness of one’s individual attractiveness. I do not encourage patients to show me pictures of famous people and say they want to do the same.
I think it is best to accurately determine the room for improvement according to the patient's current condition, share accurate information about what can be helpful, and take this into account to help the patient make a wise decision.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: From adolescence to seniors, more and more people are using plastic surgery to improve aesthetics regardless of age or gender. Please give some advice to those who plan to have plastic surgery to help them make safe and non-reckless decisions.
A. Kim Ji-hoon: As I mentioned earlier, we give our opinion based on individual personal charms and strengths to those who decide which surgery to take, and suggest to those who have already undergone several plastic surgeries in one area to take a while before coming back to the hospital again. It is essential to know exactly what you need to do, the pros and cons of procedures, and side effects, and try to choose an operation that is non-invasive and relatively easy to heal with fewer side effects and complications.
Q. Park Bo-hyun: Lastly, do you have any plans or goals for the future of Well-Aging Center at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital?
A. Kim Ji-hoon: No one can avoid the traces of time and the aging process. Aging often affects relationships between people, self-confidence, and values for life.
We are trying to provide internal and external health to patients who visit the center according to the purpose and goal of the Well-Aging Center to get older healthy and happy. We will continue to strive to slow down the aging of young people in their 20s and 30s and resolve the functional problems of the elderly. Thank you.
